What is NounQuest?
NounQuest is a language-learning app focused specifically on concrete nouns. Learn everyday words using engaging exercises, illustrations, repetition, and a learning system that adapts to your progress.
Which languages are available?
NounQuest currently supports Ukrainian, Dutch, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Portuguese.
You can combine any two languages to create a language pair that suits you.
Why does NounQuest only teach nouns?
NounQuest is deliberately focused.
Instead of trying to teach vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and sentence construction all at once, NounQuest concentrates on one important building block of language: nouns.
There are no exercises about grammatical gender, prepositions, or sentence context. This keeps the learning experience clear and focused.
What does “concrete nouns” mean?
Concrete nouns are words for things you can generally picture or recognize – such as objects, animals, people, places, and other tangible things.
Many NounQuest exercises use illustrations to make these words easier to associate with their meaning.
How does the learning system work?
NounQuest uses a learning system that responds to your progress.
Words you’ve already encountered are rehearsed along the way, while new and more difficult words become available as you progress. This gives you a mixture of review and new challenges rather than simply presenting a fixed list of vocabulary.
Do I have to learn the words in a particular order?
No. Your progress determines which words become available, so you can gradually work your way toward more difficult vocabulary.
Are the words pronounced aloud?
Some languages include spoken words/pronunciation. Availability depends on the language.
What is a Streak?
Your Streak counts the number of consecutive days on which you complete a lesson.
It’s designed to encourage a small, regular learning habit rather than requiring long study sessions.
Can I set a reminder?
Yes. NounQuest includes a daily reminder that you can configure to the time of day that works best for you.
What is a Wildcard?
A Wildcard protects your Streak when you miss a day.
For every complete week of learning, you earn a Wildcard. You can use it to miss a day without losing your Streak.
What statistics can I see?
NounQuest gives you several ways to track your progress, including:
- Number of days in your Streak
- Lessons completed
- Words learned per day
- Progress for each language pair
- Overall progress within a language pair
- Progress by category
Can I learn multiple language pairs?
Yes. You can use NounQuest with different combinations of the supported languages and track your progress per language pair.
Can I share my progress?
Yes. NounQuest lets you share your progress, so you can show friends how your learning is going.
You can also share interesting exercises you encounter.
What if I find a wrong translation?
You can report it directly from within the app using the built-in reporting functionality.
You can also use it to send comments, suggestions, or other feedback about how NounQuest could be improved.
Is NounQuest suitable for beginners?
Yes. The focused approach makes NounQuest easy to get started with. You don’t need to work through complicated grammar first — simply choose two languages and start learning nouns.
Is NounQuest a complete language course?
No. NounQuest is intentionally not a complete language course.
It focuses on building your noun vocabulary. It does not try to teach grammar, sentence construction, or contextual language use. Think of it as a focused tool for strengthening one important part of your vocabulary.
How long does a lesson take?
Lessons are designed to fit naturally into a daily routine. You can use NounQuest for a quick learning session whenever you have a moment.
